Anna Young

Biography

Anna Young was born in Central North Carolina, and currently lives and works in Portland, OR. Often combining traditional fine metals with unexpected components like vintage glass, resin, and cast animal bone, Anna sources materials from within their community, using recycled and found objects wherever possible. Their work emphasizes process while exploring identity, the relationship between synthetic and organic, the emotional history of an object, and mental health awareness. They received an AAS in Jewelry from Haywood Community College, NC, and a BFA in Metals from the Oregon College of Art and Craft, OR.

Anna’s work has been exhibited at the Folk Art Center partnering with the Southern Highland Craft Guild in Asheville, NC; 2018 Juried Exhibitions Series in Chapel Hill, NC; OCAC Matter of Course exhibition in Portland, OR; the Society of North American Goldsmith’s juried exhibition “MADE” in Portland, OR; “Untitled No. 112” at Disjecta Contemporary Arts Center in Portland, OR; and Radius Annex’s juried exhibition, “Healing Through Connection.” They were awarded the Haywood County Arts Council Regional Artist Project Grant in 2016.
